Disney’s ‘Mulan’ to Become Action Film

Disney hopes to produce a live-action remake of its successful 1998 film Mulan, which featured animated Chinese characters.

The main character is loosely based on Hua Mulan from the ancient Chinese poem the Ballad of Mulan. In the Disney version, Mulan is the tomboyish daughter of an elderly war veteran. Considered unsuitable for marriage, Mulan fears she will dishonor her parents. When her father is drafted by the Chinese military, Mulan goes against tradition and dresses as a male warrior to protect him, said the Hollywood Reporter. The film was nominated for an Academy award

Disney’s recent release of Cinderella, a live-action adaptation of the animation, has brought in $335.7 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. Its next live-action remake, Beauty and the Beast, will show in theaters in 2017, said the Hollywood Reporter.
