L’Oréal Paris has hired Asian American model Soo Joo Park to appear in its cosmetic ads. Park is the first Asian American to be chosen in 106 years.

Park is known for her blonde hair and androgynous runway style. Born in Seoul and raised in Anaheim, CA, she majored in architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, said Korea Times (U.S.). A bit of a late comer, she started her modeling career at age 26.

“I’m Asian, but I’m also Asian American,” Park said in Style.com. “It’s such an honor, but I also think the world is getting smaller and the globalization of commerce is influencing industries like beauty and fashion. So to be the first to represent a global brand is a huge honor. But I don’t want to be just that one thing; I want to be the global ambassador.”

Park has also modeled for Chanel, DKNY and Redken. Moschino, Fendi, Lanvin and Rodarte are also impressed with her, said Korea Times (U.S.).
